8-year-old child killed in shooting incident in Midrand

A young boy was shot and killed while he was seated in a car with his mother and a young girl.

A primary school learner has been killed in a tragic shooting incident on the R101 and Le Roux Avenue yesterday afternoon.

A Midrand Reporter journalist at the scene at approximately 17:00 said authorities cornered off the scene.

According Midrand Police Station’s Colonel Andre de Klerk, the boy was about eight years old.

De Klerk said the incident happened just before 15:00.

He said the boy was in the car with his mother and a young girl. The mother was shot multiple times and has been taken to the nearest hospital. The young girl was unharmed.

“We have found about five bullets [at the scene]. The mother is in her late 30s. That’s all that [the information we] have at the moment.”
