5 arrested in major R1.3m KZN drug bust
Authorities uncovered cannabis worth millions during an operation across four eThekwini properties that were allegedly used for drug dealing.
KZN police arrested five suspects aged 22 to 41 yesterday for dealing in drugs following a successful operation conducted across four policing precincts within the EThekwini District, reports Berea Mail.
“The operation was conducted by the Provincial Organised Crime Narcotics and Organised Crime Threat Unit, who followed intelligence about a suspect who was suspected to be dealing in cannabis from four of his shops located at Umbilo, Amanzimtoti, Brighton Beach, and Montclair,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza.
“Yesterday morning, the team executed the search warrant simultaneously on all targeted premises. The main suspect was arrested at a different location and was taken to his place of residence in Yellowwood Park, where more cannabis was recovered. The street value of the recovered cannabis is estimated to be R1.3m,” Magwaza concludes.
All the arrested suspects were reportedly charged for dealing in drugs and were expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today.
