4 arrested for murder and attempted murder in KZN

An intelligence-led operation led to multiple arrests, the recovery of a firearm with ammunition, and the arrest of suspects linked to violent crimes.

Four suspects have been arrested in Chatsworth, KZN, in connection with cases of murder and attempted murder, with police also recovering a firearm believed to have been used in one of the crimes.

The Witness reports that KZN provincial police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda says the arrests followed a shooting on Monday in which a 20-year-old man was killed at the 1104 informal settlement in Chatsworth.

“The victim was shot multiple times while walking on the road and was declared dead at the scene,” says Netshiunda.

He says detectives from the Chatsworth Tracing Team gathered intelligence on the whereabouts of the suspects, which was operationalised yesterday.

“During the operation, three suspects were arrested for the murder of the 20-year-old. They were found hiding in two different houses at the 1104 informal settlement,” Netshiunda says.

“One of the suspects led police to where he had hidden the firearm used in the commission of the crime. The firearm was recovered with eight rounds of ammunition.”

Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the arrested suspects was already on a wanted list for a double murder allegedly committed in Crossmoor, Chatsworth, in July.

During the same operation, police also arrested a fourth suspect who was wanted in connection with an attempted murder case.

“The suspect is alleged to have stabbed a 46-year-old man multiple times during a robbery at Shallcross in March,” Netshiunda says.

The four suspects, aged between 29 and 35, are expected to appear in the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
