3rd suspect arrested over Kruger couple murders
A cross-border investigation by police resulted in the arrest of another suspect linked to the brutal killing of a husband and wife from Mossel Bay.
Police have arrested a third suspect in connection with the murder of a couple in the Kruger National Park, marking another breakthrough in the investigation that has spanned three Southern African countries, reports Letaba Herald.
Dina (73) and Ernst Marais (71) from Mossel Bay were found dead on May 22.
The acting national police commissioner, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, praised the close cooperation between SAPS, SANParks, Mozambique’s Criminal Investigation Directorate (SERNIC) and the Zimbabwe Republic Police, which led to the suspect’s arrest.
The first two suspects were arrested in Mozambique earlier in June, where authorities also recovered the murdered couple’s vehicle.
A third suspect managed to evade arrest and fled to Zimbabwe. The 26-year-old was later traced and arrested in Zimbabwe.
He is expected to be deported to Mozambique, where he will face murder-related charges alongside the two other suspects.
