3 arrested, firearms seized west of Pretoria

The perpetrators of an armed robbery face numerous charges and are due to appear in court on Monday.

The Erasmia police recovered two firearms and arrested three suspects involved in an armed robbery on Scheiverberg Road in Vlakplaas, west of Pretoria, yesterday.

Police spokesperson Johan van Dyk says the incident unfolded at about 13:00.

Officers, who were on routine patrol, were alerted to an armed robbery in progress.

“Swiftly responding to the call, they were soon supported by the Atteridgeville SAPS and the SAPS Airwing, which provided crucial aerial assistance.

“The airwing unit’s intervention proved pivotal as they successfully apprehended two suspects,” says Van Dyk.

He says during the operation, authorities learnt that a third suspect had fled the scene, and a tactical search ensued, resulting in his capture.

“At the crime scene, police recovered two firearms. One of these weapons was identified as a replica, while the other is undergoing ballistic testing to ascertain whether it has been used in previous criminal activities.”
