2 killed in suspected taxi violence in Delft

Law enforcement agencies have been deployed to some Cape Town taxi ranks following a fatal shooting.

A shooting claimed the lives of a man and a woman near the Palm taxi rank in Delft South, Cape Town, at about 20:15 yesterday.

Sergeant Wesley Twigg, the spokesperson for the Western Cape police, says when Delft police arrived on the scene, they found a 50-year-old man and an adult woman who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

“Both victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. According to reports, the victims were driving in a silver Toyota Fortuner when they were approached by unknown suspects, who shot them before fleeing the scene,” he adds.

Twigg says the motive for the attack is believed to be taxi-related. Police are investigating two counts of murder.

“SAPS and other law enforcement agencies were deployed at taxi ranks and along taxi routes in the Delft area to monitor the situation and respond to any eventuality that may arise,” he adds.

He urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS mobile app anonymously.
