2 drop safes bombed: Petrol attendant killed in Pretoria

Gunmen descended on two petrol stations on the same day, making off with undisclosed amounts of money.

Gauteng police are looking for gunmen who robbed two petrol stations and allegedly shot and killed a petrol attendant.

The robberies took place in Mamelodi East and West in Pretoria yesterday.

People living close to the petrol stations were woken up by loud bangs.

It is alleged that several gunmen entered a filling station in Mamelodi East, and used explosives to blow up the drop safe. The explosion also caused damage to the property.

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko says the robbers fired shots, injuring a petrol attendant who later died.

She says the robbers made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

Mamelodi West fuel station robbed

On the same day, another fuel station was robbed by five armed men in Mamelodi West.

“One of them walked inside [and instructed] the cashier to go outside. She later heard a loud bang from the shop,” says Sibeko.

The suspects fled in a Toyota Quantum that they hijacked from a customer. The vehicle was later recovered, says Sibeko.

No arrests have been made.

Police are investigating a case of murder, business robberies, and damage to properties.
