2 dead, 1 arrested after high-speed chase in Westville
A man was shot dead at a KZN petrol station, while another suspect fell to his death during an early-morning chase.
A pursuit between law enforcement and three suspects ended in a fatal shooting at a petrol station on Spine Road in Westville, KZN, this morning.
Garrith Jamieson from ALS Paramedics says the incident was reported at around 06:30.
“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find emergency medical responders, police and security officials in attendance”.
He adds that paramedics were shown to a vehicle, which was being chased by law enforcement, when a shoot-out occurred, reports Highway Mail.
“Paramedics found one male inside the vehicle who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was declared deceased on the scene. A second male tried to flee and jumped over the wall and fell to the ground, sustaining fatal injuries and was declared deceased. The third occupant was arrested by police”.
“The area was cordoned off to allow investigations. At this stage, the exact events leading up to the incident are unknown. Police were in attendance and will be investigating further,” says Jamieson.
KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda says police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder following the incident at a fuel station near a mall in Westville.
Netshiunda adds that security guards reportedly followed the vehicle, and the occupants of the BMW opened fire towards them. A high-speed chase between the occupants of the vehicle and security guards ended in a shoot-out at a fuel station.
“Police’s preliminary investigations reveal that the BMW was fitted with cloned number plates. The driver surrendered and was arrested, and two firearms were found inside the vehicle,” concludes Netshiunda.
