2 arrested in connection with armed robbery in Durban

A security company alleges the suspects were seen jumping fences between homes in an attempt to getaway.

Two suspects have been arrested after they allegedly held up a resident at knifepoint on Effingham Road in Durban North this morning.

The incident occurred at about 06:00 and the victim, who was robbed of his personal belongings, flagged down a Swift Private Security officer on patrol.

Company spokesperson Sanveer Sooklall said the suspects had fled the scene on foot.

“Our control centre dispatched more officers with descriptions of the suspects and the direction in which they were last seen fleeing. During the search, our officers spotted the two suspects jumping between properties and heading toward Firwood Road. They pursued the suspects, and after a brief chase, successfully apprehended both of them.

“Although the stolen items were not found on the suspects, our officers took the initiative to retrace their escape route. Shortly afterward, they successfully recovered the stolen belongings. Greenwood Park SAPS was contacted and arrived on the scene, with the resident set to register a case,” he said.
