15-year sentence for armed KZN tavern robber

A man found guilty of an armed robbery at a tavern in Dumisa location almost three years ago, was sentenced recently.

Xolisani Niki Mkhize (31) appeared in the Scottburgh Regional Court last week, where he was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for aggravated robbery.

According to police, on May 21, 2021, Mkhize robbed a tavern in Dumisa location at gunpoint. He took cash, alcohol and cigarettes before fleeing the scene.

A case was opened and an investigation was led by detective Sergeant Mandisii Mkhize of the Sawoti Detective Service.

Mkhize was arrested on May 24, 2021, three days after the crime.

Bail was denied and he remained in custody throughout his trial.

He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
