ATM bombed, shots fired during brazen cash heist near Middelburg

Four explosions took place and the robbers hijacked two vehicles to make their escape.

At least four explosions took place during a brazen ATM bombing at the Sasol Doornkop filling station in the early hours of this morning.

The filling station is situated on the N11 (Groblersdal Road) about 15 km outside Middelburg. The attack took place shortly before 01:00.

The convenience shop was badly damaged in the blasts and was still closed at 14:00 this afternoon.

The gang of robbers hijacked two vehicles to make their escape. Both hijacked vehicles were recovered on the N11 following the attack.

Kranspoort security groups also responded to the attack by offering search assistance for the robbers.

Many spent and live rounds of ammunition was recovered at the scene. Luckily, no one was injured.
