The Mango Margarita experience

You don’t need any fancy bartending skills to make this cocktail - just a few key ingredients and a blender to achieve a smooth consistency.

When it comes to margaritas, we often think of the classic lime version. But for those who love a splash of tropical flavour, the Mango Margarita is the perfect twist. Sweet, tangy, and refreshingly exotic, this cocktail transports you straight to a sunny beach, even if you’re sipping it in your own back garden.

Mango, known as the “king of fruits,” is revered for its juicy sweetness. Its smooth, creamy texture pairs beautifully with the tartness of lime and the robust kick of tequila.

Ingredients

  • 50ml tequila
  • 25ml triple sec (or any orange liqueur)
  • 75g fresh or frozen mango chunks
  • 25ml freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 15ml agave syrup (or simple syrup, to taste)
  • Ice cubes (about a handful, depending on preference)
  • Salt, for rimming the glass (optional)
  • Lime wedge and mango slice for garnish

Method

  1. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a margarita or rocks glass, then dip it into a small plate of salt. Set the glass aside to let the salt stick as you prepare the cocktail.
  2. In a blender, combine the tequila, triple sec, mango chunks, lime juice, agave syrup, and ice cubes. Blend until smooth and slushy. If you prefer a thicker consistency, you can add more ice or frozen mango. For a thinner drink, splash in a bit of cold water or more lime juice.
  3. Once blended, give the mixture a taste. If you want it sweeter, add a touch more agave syrup. If you prefer more tartness, squeeze in extra lime juice.
  4. Pour the mango margarita into your prepared glass.
  5. Garnish with a lime wedge on the rim and a slice of mango.

Tips for a perfect Mango Margarita

  • If you have fresh, ripe mangoes on hand, they’re ideal for the best flavour. However, frozen mango chunks work just as well, especially if you want to skip the ice for a creamier, thicker margarita.
  • A good-quality tequila makes all the difference. Opt for a 100% agave tequila for the best results.
  • Agave syrup is a natural sweetener that complements the tequila, but if you don’t have it, you can use simple syrup or even honey. Just keep in mind that mango itself is quite sweet, so it’s better to add your sweetener gradually and taste as you go.
  • For those who enjoy a little heat, add a slice of fresh jalapeño or a dash of chilli powder to the blender.
  • While this recipe is blended for a frozen margarita, you can easily adapt it to serve over ice. Simply skip the blender, shake the ingredients together in a cocktail shaker, and pour over ice in your glass.
