Uncle Waffles makes history at the Brooklyn Mirage
DJ Uncle Waffles became the first black woman to headline a show at the Brooklyn Mirage in New York. She is also the first amapiano musician to perform at the venue.
This weekend, South Africa celebrated significant victories across various fronts. The Springboks secured their second consecutive win in Australia, Dricus du Plessis successfully defended his UFC middleweight title, and renowned amapiano DJ Uncle Waffles made history by becoming the first-ever black woman to headline a show at the Brooklyn Mirage in New York.
The event was truly historic, as she also became the first amapiano artist to perform at the venue.
Following the successful event, the artist, whose real name is Lungelihle Zwane, took to Instagram to express her gratitude for the honour.
She wrote: “The first black woman to headline Brooklyn Mirage. The first Piano artist and many more to come! What do I even say?”
She continued: “So much to share, thank you, New York, for helping me create history despite the weather. I cannot express how grateful I am. Thank you, Amazon Music, for helping me share this with the world!”
The Swazi-born artist also took the opportunity to thank the Brooklyn Mirage, her dancers, and her team, who worked tirelessly to make the event a success.

With the way things are going for the 24-year-old, 2024 is shaping up to be her year. This recent concert marks the second time within a month that she has made history, following her groundbreaking performance as the first amapiano artist at the Wireless Festival in London last month.
