Unusual ways to quickly reduce stress

Life can be a lot for all of us and we often find ourselves in stressful situations more than we would want. Here are some strange but effective ways to release some stress.

There are many proven techniques to reduce stress some of them include exercising, meditating and so forth. There are also other unusual but easy ways to quickly relieve yourself from stress.

Here are some of them as reported by several research studies.

Eat sour sweets: Savouring the acidic flavour of a sour sweet can be a calming strategy, according to Utah State University, though it is known to work better during panic attacks than overall worry. The university states that you may easily switch your attention from your overwhelming and worrisome sensations by concentrating on the sensation, taste, and scent of the candy.

Inhale a citrus scent: When life gives you lemons, you should smell them. Citrus scents, such as orange, lemon, or lime are said to raise norepinephrine levels in the brain, which can assist in reducing stress levels. This information was reported in a paper published on Antioxidants. If this works for you, you might want to carry an aromatherapy roll-on oil with you to support you during the day

Cool your wrists: Happiful, an online medical information publication states that cold water has been shown to lower cortisol levels and raise endorphins, “It’s no wonder that cold water therapy and wild swimming are so well-liked,” says the publication. However, the publication suggests that one shouldn’t feel pressured to head straight to a natural spring for a swim when overwhelming feelings hit. Since your wrists contain large arteries, you can simply pour cold water on a washbasin and dip your wrists. This should help you feel cooler.

Roll your eyes: You heard right. Even though rolling our eyes is a tempting response when someone is trying our patience, the above-mentioned publication reveals that the mental attention required to roll your eyes can help lower stress levels. “Just raise your eyes as though you’re aiming them towards your eyebrows, and inhale deeply while you do so. Breathe in while keeping your eyes in place, then release your breath to let them return to their natural posture.”

Chew gum: Although chewing gum has been associated with increased focus and attention span for decades, more recent studies have examined the potential for stress reduction. A 2016 study published in the Journal of Clinical and Translational Research found that patients who used chewing gum in addition to their antidepressant medication showed evidence of a higher reduction in depression than those who only took the medication.
