They come in a wide selection, including various lengths, colours, materials and styles, catering for various occasions, both informal and formal.
Entrepreneur and digital content creator Tamia Nontsikelelo provides some tips on how a headwrap can be worn:
Top-knot style
- Gather the material up neatly and braid as close to your scalp as possible
- Don’t braid all the way down, so that it’s easier to tuck in the loose ends
- Swirl in a circular motion and tuck in the ends

Low-bun style
- Use two wraps
- Twist instead of tying a knot
- Criss-cross the two ends and bring each to the opposite side
- Gather the material
- Tuck in the end pieces for a clean finish
- To achieve more volume, wear another headwrap underneath to create a bigger bun.

Half-done headwrap style
Use two headwraps, one to achieve the look and the other to complete the final look and style.
- Twist and tie your foundation wrap into a low long oval shape
- Use the one long side of your second headwrap to secure, then wrap around the existing long oval bun
- As you do this, tuck in the excess
- Allow the second piece to hang
- Slightly pull back the front part to show your edges
