Apple Pie Oats is a delicious, warming mix of apple and spices. Add in your choice of nut or dairy milk. This dish is quick and easy to make when using a multicooker. You can have your breakfast ready for you when you wake up! Recipe compliments of Instant Pot.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups (750ml) water
  • 2 cups (500 ml) milk (dairy, nut or soya)
  • 1.5 cups steel-cut oats
  • 2 apples, peeled and cut into small chunks or grated
  • ½  tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 5 ml ground cinnamon
  • 5 ml ground mixed spice
  • 30 ml raw honey (for a vegan alternative, use coconut sugar or maple syrup)
  • A small handful of mixed nuts or nut butter
  • A sprinkle of cinnamon and freshly sliced apple for garnish

Method

  1. Place the water, milk, and oats in the inner pot of the multicooker. Stir in the chunks of apple (they must be peeled), salt, spices, and sweetener of choice.  Stir well.
  2.  Secure the lid and turn the vent up to sealed position. Cook for 12 mins on High Pressure.
  3. If you would like to prepare this the night before and have it ready when you wake up, select DELAY START and choose the number of hours. Factor in the full amount of time, including the Natural Pressure Release (+/- 15 mins).
  4. Once cooking time is up, allow Natural Pressure Release and wait for valve to drop. Open lid and stir.
  5. Serve with crushed mixed nuts, or nut butter,  a dash of cinnamon and top with some freshly sliced apples.
