Tips for growing your hair stronger and faster

Learn how to get your hair looking and feeling healthy, at the length you desire.

Below are a few tips from The Cut on how to get your hair growing stronger and faster.

Airdry instead of towel drying

Avoid using a towel to dry your hair. The above-mentioned publication states, “It’s very fun to flip your head over and rise with a chic turban of sorts, but the combo of twisting, tension, and fabric-rubbing on super-fragile wet hair is not great for hair growth.” If you do want to use a towel, swap it for a microfibre one.

Sleep on silk

Sleeping on silk pillowcases can prevent your hair from tangling, breakage, and damage. Not only are such pillowcases good for your hair, but your skin too.

Massage your scalp

Trichologist Anabel Kingsley states that scalp massages boost mood and relieve stress which has a negative impact on the hair-growth cycle. There are two common methods to massage your scalp: effleurage (circular stroking movements) and petrissage (gentle kneading and lifting of the scalp). Anabel advises starting from the front and working your way to the back using gentle yet firm and consistent pressure.

Trim your hair

By regularly trimming your hair, you can get rid of those unwanted split ends. “Every eight weeks or so is the general benchmark, but, it doesn’t need to be a strict, recurring appointment,” notes The Cut.

Know how to brush

Gently brush your hair – only when necessary – with a brush that has rounded, plastic prongs and a vented, cushioned base, states Anabel. Always start from the ends and work your way up to avoid breakage.
