WATCH: SA rock legends wow at book launch

"What you saw on stage and felt in the performances, money cannot buy."

South African music legends erupted onto the stage at the Barnyard, Emperors Palace, during the exclusive launch of Danny de Wet’s book Sex, Drums and Rock n Roll…in Africa.

The long-awaited, tell-all biography follows the former Beyers Park resident’s illustrious career within the local music industry, spanning over four decades.

Muso friends joined him on stage to celebrate the occasion, transporting the audience on a musical journey that not only shaped de Wet’s musical talent but transformed the local rock scene forever.

“I felt incredibly blessed that so many long-time friends, all of whom happen to be local musicians, could celebrate the launch that tells the story of our combined journey over the past 40 years, with me,” he said.

“Bob Dylan said ‘some people are so poor, all they have is money’. I am fortunate to not be one of those poor people.”

Sharing the stage with the likes of Cito of Wonderboom, Lucien Windrich of eVOID and up-and-coming Joe Somebody from Benoni, de Wet ensured the audience not only enjoyed local talent but appreciated the tales that has shaped our unique musical sound.

“I want young musicians to listen to local music, to really feel the words, appreciate the instruments, let the rhythm course through their veins, then go and write their own music,” he said.
