Reiger Park’s much-loved song ‘Wie se kind is die’ goes gold

Reiger Park’s finest Meneer Cee plans to release his debut album later this year.

The song Wie se kind is die, which has become like an anthem in Reiger Park, has recently attained gold status.

The man behind this popular song, Dalmaine Cochrane Jr, better known as Meneer Cee of Reiger Park, has bagged digital sales of over 10 000 units for his song.

“The amalgamation of amapiano beats with Afrikaans lyrics has made the song stand out. The hit single has remained on the number one spot on the Good Hope FM charts for three weeks and has sparked a dance challenge on TikTok with over 27 million views,” he said.

Meneer Cee has explained that his song, Straight Outta Reiger Park, known as Wie se kind is die, was composed to meet two needs.

One being an Afrikaans music market that is generally saturated with subpar music and an amapiano market that doesn’t cater to Afrikaans-speaking people.

“The genre of music that I do is Afri-piano, a fusion of amapiano and Afrikaans rap. The genre of music that I do draws more than the Afrikaans audience. The major influences on my style of music have been electric deep house as well as South African kwaito with a little bit of pop elements,” he said.

The 25-year-old, who is a school teacher, said he started his musical journey last year October.

“After two years of posting viral comedy sketches and building a fan base, I decided now was the time to release a song. It was then when I met amapiano producer DeeLogic (Devagen Alberts), who produced the instrumental that would form the perfect basis for an anthem that nobody knew they needed and thus Wie se kind is die went bigger than we could’ve expected,” he said.

The artist said his music has been well received by the community of Reiger Park.

“For the young people, it has become an anthem of inspiration and for the older generation it has become a symbol of hope that Reiger Park is a place of endless possibilities.”

He is currently working on a mixtape called CeeStyle Sessions and two of his EPs are also in the works, titled Pretty Girls Love Mr Cee and #ColouredConsciousness.
