Behind the voice: Caroline Borole talks Tina Turner

Starting from August 31 until September 16, the Tina: Simply the Best show will be performed in the Theatre of Marcellus.

Tina Turner fans are in for a treat come August 31, as Caroline Borole takes on the role of the legendary songstress in a dazzling two-hour full-scale stage production at Emperors Palace in Tina: Simply the Best.

South African-born Borole will be backed by a live band as she performs Turner’s biggest hits, including Simply the Best, What’s Love Got to Do with It, River Deep Mountain High, Proud Mary, Nutbush City Limits, Private Dancer and many more.

Borole comes from Soweto and studied musical theatre after school When asked what songs of artists currently feature on her playlist, the answer is simple: “Tina, Tina, Tina! Besides normal radio, she is all I listen to.”

Borole’s current favourite local artist is LaSoul.

“She has some sultry vocals that are hip and happening right now.”

Borole has been singing from an early age. Right from school, straight into studying music.

“Ever since I can remember, I have been singing. It was only natural that wherever I went, music would be right there with me. The music industry is tough to crack into, but once you do, you have to keep on pushing the boundaries by working hard and being hungry for success.”

Borole is performing music of such a big legend.

“It feels incredible to sing songs from a living legend who is still a force to be reckoned with. Miss Tina is a show that female performers dream of performing on stage, and I get to live that dream so it’s pretty special.”

This will not be Borole’s first time performing at Emperors Palace.

“I have performed at the Palace of Dreams before, so it feels like home, and it’s always good to be back home.”

According to Borole, the show is jam-packed with all the tunes we know and love from Tina.

“It’s highly energetic, full of exciting and electric rock ballads and tunes. There is a song for everyone, young and old. It simply doesn’t disappoint,” said Borole.
