Don’t miss Jazz Legends with Hugh Masekela at Carnival City in June

June brings a treat for music fans as four of South Africa’s iconic jazz performers, Hugh Masekela, Caiphus Semenya, Bhudaza and Dumza Maswana collaborate for a rare concert at Carnival City.

The legendary, award winning performers take to the stage at the Big Top Arena for Soulful Nights: Jazz Legends Edition on June 17.

Soulful Nights emerged with its first concert to commemorate the 41st anniversary of Youth Month last year to remind South Africa of its past and celebrate its accomplishments since the Soweto Uprising.

Following the super success of the show, this year’s line-up has been carefully selected to represent authentic South African jazz and highlight the different generations of jazz music.

With the world renowned trumpet and flugelhorn legend, Hugh Masekela featuring with legendary singer, music director and composer Caiphus Semenya; jazz trumpeter Bhudaza and Dumza Maswana, the show promises to be nothing short of spectacular.

“We are honoured to welcome Hugh Masekela to our stage in June as part of Youth Day weekend celebration,” said Michelle Smith, the Marketing Manager at Carnival City.

“Our audience is in store for a tremendous and memorable evening as this icon of South African music collaborates with three renowned performers.”

Masekela is an innovator in the world music and jazz scene and continues to tour the world as a performer, composer, producer and activist.

This world renowned artist is best known for his Grammy-nominated hit single, Grazing in the Grass which sold over four million copies in 1968 and made him an international star.

He later played an integral role in Paul Simon’s tour behind the classic album Graceland, which was one of the first pop records to introduce African music to a broader public.
