Feel Alive en Vrolik with Casper de Vries

The blush-a-minute, laugh-a-minute tempest of a comedian, Casper de Vries, is set to take Carnival City by storm this month.

Fans must brace for stomach-wrenching laughter at the Mardi Gras Theatre when De Vries returns with a bang on February 17 and 18.

“We are thrilled to host one of South Africa’s biggest names in Afrikaans, and now also English, comedy in 2017. It is true that dynamite comes in small packages,” said Michelle Smith, the marketing manager at Carnival City.

Although De Vries announced his retirement from doing one-man stand-up comedy in an exclusive interview with Channel 24 in 2013, he has made a really strong comeback and is set to have fans watching in disbelief as he spurts a whole lot of hilarious controversy in his latest routine, Alive en Vrolik.

“More theatrical and intimate than before,” is how De Vries has described this show.

“This time I’ll be performing in my living room,” said Casper, who associates the comfort of being on stage with being in his living room.

“I can walk up and down because I can, and it feels like home.”

This unapologetic comedian, actor, entertainer, painter, composer, director and producer is known for his absurdity on stage internationally.

Although he initially catered only for the Afrikaans market in South Africa and also gained a significant following of Afrikaners living abroad, he has recently acquired an abundance of English followers as well.

This has come about as a result of his most recent work on Comedy Central Africa and Cliff Central.

He also recently received the Savanna Comics’ Choice Lifetime Achievement Award.

The name Casper de Vries is synonymous with an endless list of characters and shows such as Oom Kallie Marie, Blertsie du Toit, Egoli, Proesstraat, Die Casper Rasper Show, Supersterre, and the most recent Doen met ’n Miljoen, the Afrikaans version of Deal or No Deal, which he hosts.

De Vries’sshows are not for the faint-hearted or the easily offended.
