See the New Year in with the top DJ

The 2016 Carnival City Battle of the DJs kicked off on December 9 and culminates in the grand finale on December 31.

Top South African DJ Euphonik will perform during the various rounds and will crown the winner of the competition.

The winner receives a one-year contract, valued at over R300 000, to perform, weekly, at Bru’s Bar, at Carnival City.

The runner-up will receive R10 000 and a weekend away at Sun City.

“We are thrilled to announce that our first ever Carnival City Battle of the DJs is underway,” said Michelle Smith, the Marketing Manager at Carnival City.

“Carnival City is a proud supporter of local talent and we are excited to give aspiring DJs a platform to showcase their talents.

“Dance music enthusiasts are urged to come down and be part of this event which will feature DJ Euphonik and other esteemed DJs on the decks.”

The qualifying rounds took place on December 9 and 10 when aspiring DJs had to prepare a 15-minute set to showcase their talents before a panel of judges, which included celebrity DJs Capital, PH and Miss Cosmo.

The judges will select aspiring DJs to go through to the elimination rounds on December 23 and 24, between 5pm and midnight.

DJs who have qualified for the elimination rounds will perform a 30-minute set and judges will score the competitors to choose their top six.

They will be scored on their choice of music, mixing ability, presentation and audience interaction.

DJ Euphonik will also treat visitors to energetic sets on December 23 and 24.

The semifinals will take place on December 30 between 5pm and midnight when the top six will be required to perform a 50-minute set.

DJ Euphonik will also hit the decks that evening.

The finals take place on December 31, from 5pm to 2am, when the top three DJs will get to play alongside DJ Euphonik and other well-known DJs.

At midnight, the winner will be announced and will play a triumphant two-hour set to celebrate.
