Authentically local bands join hands for Home Brewed Music Concert

Some of South Africa’s best loved, authentically local bands including The Soil, Mafikizolo, The Muffinz and Velaphi Live come together for the 2016 Home Brewed Music Concert at Carnival City’s Big Top Arena on November 6.

This will be the first time that these celebrated artists will collaborate on the same stage and hails the rise of the Home Brewed culture which embraces and celebrates local talent, music and products.

The many fans of The Soil, Mafikizolo, The Muffinz and Velaphi Live are expected to show up to catch them live on stage in the ample Big Top Arena.

The evening promises superlative, proudly South African entertainment.

In the driver’s seat as the MC, is well-known comedian Donovan Goliath.

“Carnival City enthusiastically supports local talent and music. We are delighted to provide the stage for the 2016 Home Brewed Music Concert which brings together four popular South African bands for one awesome show,” said Matthew Cook, the events and entertainment manager at Carnival City.

The Soil is an award winning group which performs what they describe as “Kasi Soul” – an eclectic mix of musical genres such as jazz, hip hop, Afro-pop and Afro-soul.

Having paid their dues, The Soil is as comfortable at big music festivals and concerts as it is on theatre stages.

The Soil has graced stages of the most renowned events such as Apollo theatre (New York), Cape Town International Jazz Festival, Standard Bank Joy of Jazz, Grahamstown Arts Festival, Jazz by the River, as well as theatre stages of the Nelson Mandela Theatre and the Catalyst Theatre in Cape Town.

Mafikizolo hits include ‘”Meet Me At The River” and “Marabi”. Hugh Masekela appeared with Mafikizolo in their music video “Kwela”.

The music of The Muffinz is so soulful, accessible, honest and innocent that it appeals to people of all ages, races, and classes.

The five young musicians make a refreshing change from the usual run of the mill rappers and house DJs, who are currently dominating the popular music scene, in that they play real instruments, and they play them well.

The band switches from a groovy R&B rhythm led by acoustic guitarist Mthae and bassist Skabz, to a classy jazz guitar sound introduced by electric guitarist and acapella singer, Simz.

The Home Brewed Music Concert will start at 4pm sharp, with the doors to the Big Top opening at 3pm.
