Carnival City’s Big Top Arena provides the stage for schools talent competition Revue 2016
School revues are no longer bound to the small school halls in which they were rehearsed and performed over and over.
Thanks to Carnival City, school children from across the country will now have the opportunity to showcase their talent in the 5 000-seater Big Top Arena.
“Many of these productions are professionally executed, but never really get to go further than their school stages,” said Michelle Smith, marketing manager of Carnival City.
“We are thrilled to give them a much bigger platform, by hosting young school performers on our stage in the Revue 2016 competition.”
This competition, for both primary and high school productions, started in August.
From videos submitted by various schools, the best 26 primary and 26 high schools were chosen to perform at Carnival City.
Earlier this month the primary school qualifying rounds took place and, last week (September 12 to 14), the high school productions had their turn to qualify.
On September 19, the primary school semi-finals took place, with the high school semi-finals the following day (September 20).
Today, September 21, the last evening of dance, song, movement and colour will take place and the winning schools will be announced.
With over R50 000 in cash prizes, the winners will also take home a voucher for meat to the value of R25 000, which will be donated to their feeding schemes.
The teachers organisers of the winning revues will also be rewarded for their hard work and dedication, winning a cabin for the Oppiwater Arts Festival, from Cape Town to Namibia, next year.
