Award winning AKA features in The Heavyweights lineup

Award-winning hip-hop artist and rapper, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, better known as AKA, is one of the top local DJs to be hitting the decks at The Heavyweights music festival taking place at Carnival City on Youth Day, June 16.

AKA has been making a name for himself as a solo artist since 2009 when his hits like Mistakes and Do It climbed the local music charts.

He also won the Metro FM Music Awards for Best Newcomer, Best Hip-Hop as a solo act and Best Produced Album for his debut Altar Ego.

In 2011, his song Victory Lap won Channel O’s Most Gifted Hip-Hop Video at the seventh annual Channel O Music Video Awards.

At the 18th South African Music Awards the same year, he was awarded Male Artist of the Year and Best Street Urban Music Album.

During his career he has opened for well-known international acts such as Kanye West, Snoop Lion, Big Sean and more.

The Heavyweights music festival, organised by Thikho Events, promises all the thumping music – and more – that fans enjoyed last year.

This year’s event will see a string of award-winning house music heads and hip-hop DJs in the mix.

These include Kwesta, a Metro FM Awards 2016 nominee, who recently released the hit singles Ingudu, featuring Cassper Nyovest and Nomanyini, as well as his long-awaited double album Dakar II.

Another well-known artist performing is Emtee, one of the biggest Metro FM Awards winners for 2016.

He won the awards for Best Remix Roll Up, Best Hip-Hop album, Best Music Video Roll Up and Listener’s Choice.

Prince Kaybee, the winner of the Metro FM Award for Best Dance Album will also be on top form for fans at The Heavyweights.

True to its promise to provide a platform for showcasing emerging talent, Thikho Events has included on the bill a number of supporting acts including Yanga, K2, Infinite Boys, DJ Kgotso, DJ Levis, Mageza and Moscow and DJ Funkycodes.
