WIN TICKETS! Vocalist Deo Phoenix joins the Hey Now show

Eighties rock show Hey Now, Hey Now Now welcomes a new companion on board – vocalist Deo Phoenix.

Hey Now, Hey Now Now is a cutting edge ’80s rock production that celebrates and pays tribute to the best alternative rock bands of the decade.

The repertoire includes medleys of the great songs by the great bands of the era: The Cure, Sisters of Mercy, The Cult, U2, The Pixies, Depêche Mode, Violent Femmes, The Clash, Talking Heads, Lloyd Cole, Joy Division, New Order, Simple Minds, Bauhaus, The Jam, The Police, Echo and The Bunnymen, The Smiths and Duran Duran.

The show was conceptualised in 2013 by Danny de Wet (ex-Wonderboom, eVoid and Petit Cheval), to fulfil the need for an ’80’s tribute show that focused on presenting the myriad of huge ”unconventional” chart topping hits that alternative bands of the era enjoyed.

Hey Now, Hey Now Now was an instant hit, due to both the excellent material on offer and the phenomenal vocal talents of Dave Beretta Owens (ex-Lithium and N8tive) and Jay Wilton (The Cavalier).

Phoenix has stayed in Kempton Park for most of his teen years. He moved to the UK and came back to Boksburg in 2008.

Phoenix doesn’t come from a musical family, but he said that his daughter, Kaylee-Dee (13), loves singing and music and will have to continue the legacy.

His interest in music began at an early age, as a drummer in 1994

“I was hooked after a drum solo at a club in Kempton Park,” said Phoenix.

He played for a variety of bands over the next few years and performed all over the country.

However, it took him a few years to realise that his voice was a more formidable weapon in getting his point across.

Besides singing and playing the drums, he also plays the guitar.

Phoenix is currently in the rock band Seven Side Story.

His debut album 7 is available and the follow-up album, Daybreak, will be released in March.

Winning the Klipdrift Battle of the Bands in 2011 and subsequently being signed by Stone Studios International is one of the highlights of his music career.

“The Hey Now show is the next step in my growth as an artist, as I get to work with some of the country’s finest musicians and experience a different side of the industry,” said Phoenix.

“It is an amazing honour to be a part of this well-oiled machine that is Hey Now, Hey Now Now.”
