PARTY: Spring Fiesta draws 13 000 music revellers from across the country

The fifth and latest edition of the Ekurhuleni Spring Fiesta festival held at Wild Waters on October 3 proved to be a success, according to the management of the event.

In partnership with the city of Ekurhuleni, the dance culture’s biggest gathering was brought to music lovers by Soul Candi Live, SABC 1 and Metro FM.

Hoards of people (13 000 if you like your numbers), converged on the venue for the festival, where some of the country’s A-list DJs, including Fresh and Oskido, Mobi Dixon, Black Coffee, Kent and Euphonik, created musical euphoria as they delivered a superb performance that left the crowd asking for more.

This year’s event saw over 60 local and international artists in total, plus an inclusion of a seventh stage for the very first time.

International acts included Lars Behrenroth and Yoruba Records’ Osunlade.

“This year’s event was the biggest to date in terms of experience,” said the event’s director, Ricardo Da Costa.

“We put in a lot of time and effort into production including programming for the DJs, lighting and security to avoid the mistakes we experienced last year.

“We also decreased the number of attendees from last year’s 15 000 down to 13 000, to improve the overall experience.”

Asked about the litter and gatherings of people on the streets outside of the area under the event organiser’s control, which notoriously mar the event, Da Costa stated: “It’s obviously not something we condone. We sold out the event on Friday evening and you’re always going to get people who want to get tickets at the very last minute and find themselves outside.

“We work hard to avoid negativities. There will never be a perfect scenario.

“Anything that happens outside the demarcated area becomes the responsibility of the authorities.

“Is there more that can be done to manage people outside the event? I think authorities can do a better job, but we still appreciate everything they do for us,” quipped Da Costa.

Asked about the sixth Spring Fiesta to be held next year, Da Costa responded: “We start planning immediately after the event. We instantly take what works and what doesn’t. We’re already at work to improve future events”
