Everest

Thriller

Starring: Keira Knightley, Emily Watson, Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, Jason Clarke, Sam Worthington

Based on the real events of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster, this thriller focuses on two different expeditions that go on a mission to climb the world’s highest mountain. Due to the number of people attempting the climb at the same time, and the lack of fixed ropes placed at strategic points in advance, the climbers find themselves in a bottleneck as they try to summit, delaying their journey and causing disastrous consequences.

Maya the bee

Starring: Kodi Smit-McPhee, Miriam Margolyes, Richard Roxburgh, Jacki Weaver, Coco Jack Gillies

Maya the bee is bored and takes to the meadows with her best friend, Willy, to find adventure and to escape the monotony of controlling hive life. Flip the grasshopper helps Maya to avoid enemies like the hornets, moths, dung beetles and spiders, while rescuing the Queen from her evil Court Adviser, Buzzlina Von Beena.

This Chinese, Mandarin-language drama stars Gong Li as a middle-aged woman struggling with amnesia in the aftermath of China’s Cultural Revolution, a time that was responsible for ripping her family apart. Her professor husband, who was imprisoned for being an academic, is released from prison and attempts to reconnect with his wife, pretending to be a host of strangers in order to be constantly able to make contact with her.

Die Pro tells the story of a young surfer, Tiaan Nothnagel, who has to come to terms with the accidental death of his best friend, Dirkie Lawrence, just before their last year at school. After Dirkie’s death, Tiaan swears off surfing for good, as he can’t stand to be reminded of everything he and Dirkie shared. But then, Dirkie’s twin sister (who went to live with their dad after their parents split up the previous year) arrives in town on a mission: to be selected to go on Wave-Seekers, a fictional World Surf Tour and something that Tiaan and Dirkie dreamt of doing. But, for her to succeed she needs Tiaan’s help and, by implication, she needs him to get back on his surfboard.
