Don’t miss premium winter jazz fest at Carnival City
Three of the country’s foremost jazz and soul outfits will be taking to the stage as part of the Business Premium Jazz Festival, in Carnival City’s Big Top Arena, in August.
The stellar line-up features award winning Acapella group, The Soil, multiple SAMA and Metro Award winner Zonke Dikana, fast-rising eclectic soul music ensemble, The Muffinz and Native Rhythm newcomer, Tribute Birdie Mboweni.
Music fans can brace themselves for an evening of superlative entertainment by these top calibre artists on Saturday, August 22.
The day before, Friday, August 21, a string of sought-after and emerging comedians will be collaborating for the Business Premium Comedy Festival.
“We have a weekend full of super-charged entertainment on the cards, with the Business Premium Comedy and Jazz Festivals taking place over the weekend of August 21 and 22,” said Matthew Cook, the entertainment and events manager at Carnival City.
“There are great comedians and artists on the bill.”
The Soil performs what they describe as “Kasi Soul” – an eclectic mix of musical genres such as jazz, hip hop, Afro-pop and Afro-soul.
They strive to fuse their harmonious voices to deliver melodies with deep and meaningful messages, which aim to uplift and heal souls.
The music of The Muffinz is so new, yet so soulful, so accessible, so honest and so innocent, that it appeals to people of all ages, races, and classes.
The five young musicians make a refreshing change from the usual run of the mill rappers and house DJs, who are currently dominating the popular music scene, in that they play real instruments, and they play them well.
The band switches from a groovy R&B rhythm, led by acoustic guitarist Mthae and bassist Skabz, to a classy jazz guitar sound introduced by electric guitarist and a cappella singer Simz.
Acclaimed musician and songstress, Zonke’s sound is collectively classified as Afro-soul.
Her musical influences include the likes of Busi Mhlongo and the late Miriam Makeba, with her all-time favourite artist being Brenda Fassie.
Zonke has also written many hit songs for artists such as Theo Kgosinkwe, Winnie Khumalo and Tsepo Tshola.
The show will start at 8pm, but the doors to the Big Top will open earlier, at 7pm.
