Astounding talent features at East Rand singing competition

East Rand Super Voice held its annual singing competition final round at Presleys, Boksburg, on Sunday, November 30.

The competition has two phases, including prelims, which are normally held in July across different towns in Ekurhuleni.

This exciting singing competition for budding singers in the East Rand attracted about 180 singers as it travels across the East Rand in search for the Ekurhuleni’s best singers.

Winners of the preliminaries in both the junior and senior categories then advance to the the final round, where the East Rand Super Voice champion is crowned.

The senior category (for entrants 16 years and older) was won by a Kempton Park singer, Andre Pretorius.

He went home with R10 000 in cash, a trophy, a 12 track recording at A to Z Productions, SA Home Loans hampers and a certificate.

Wilmarie Fleischman from Boksburg claimed the second place with Ilana Grobbelaar from Brakpan coming third.

The winning singer in the junior category was 13-year-old Meganey Lessing from Boksburg, who competed against five other singers in the finals.

She received R3 000 in cash, five tracks demo recording by A to Z Productions and a jewellery and hair accessory gift hamper.

East Rand Super Voice singing competition marked its fifth year.

The event organiser, Tessa Larsson, says their objective is to discover and promote young talented singers.

“It is a great singing opportunity for budding singers.”

The 2013 winner, Kayleen Pieterse Mmari also attended the event and performed several songs for the appreciative crowd.

Judges included Rea le Roux (vocal trainer and singer), Devlon Jarrod Horne (producer) and Gerhard Schaap (East Rand Stereo presenter). – @FanieBoksburg
