Local film-makers bring Hollywood to our doorstep

Leading Lady will release at Ster-Kinekor cinemas nationwide, in 64 theatres, which equals an international film allocation, on November 28.

The film, which will, luckily, be screened at Carnival City and the East Rand Mall, has been picked up by a distribution company in the US, which will see it having a summer release in America (something that is really tough to achieve all the way from South Africa).

The film tells the story of an aspiring British actress, Jodi Rutherford (played by Katie McGrath from Dracula and Jurassic World), who persuades Kobus Willemse (Bok van Blerk), a farmer from Brandort, to prepare her for a role in a major film as an Afrikaans war heroine.

In return, Jodi undertakes to help Magdaleen Willemse (Brumilda van Rensburg) to arrange and direct the annual concert at the Willemse farm.

Jodi’s interaction with the quirky, small town citizens of Brandfort and the stubborn Kobus teaches her that there is more to life than Hollywood’s “lights, camera, action!” — or is there?

The film was directed by SA-born Henk Pretorius and Llewellyn Greeff, and also features Hollywood actor Gil Bellows (from Ally McBeal and Shawshank Redemption).
