The King and Queen of comedy-Kagiso Lediga and Tumi Morake

She juggles being a mother, a wife, an actress and a comedian, its none other than the Queen of comedy, Tumi Morake.

Morake promises to set the stage ablaze on September 23 (tonight) at the Kings and Queens of Comedy Africa, which will be held at Emperors Palace.

“The Eastrand crowd can expect fireworks from this Queen, I mean me and Kuli are the only queens, so we need to bring the house down,” says Morake.

Queen Kuli Roberts will be host for the night of laughter.

Morake loves comedy because she enjoys the atmosphere and seeing the audience appreciating her performance.

“All my jokes are funny,” she says, and adds that she doesn’t have a funniest joke.

“I enjoy performing to everyone who enjoys stand-up and supports the craft.”

She overcomes a bad day by reading a magazine.

“My beautiful children make me laugh, there’s never a dull moment.”

Morake will be joined on stage by the cream-of-the-crop of the South African comedy scene.

The acts will include Kagiso Lediga, Tshepo Mogale, Chester Missing and Conrad Koch, Ugandas’ David Kibuka and Pablo Kimuli, Nigerias’ Basket Mouth, Zimbabwe’s Carl Joshua Ncube and Malawi’s Daliso Chaponda.

Father, husband and comedian Lediga is best-known for creating, writing, producing and starring in the Sabc 1 sketch comedy series the Pure Monate Show.

Asked what he loves about comedy, Lediga’s answer was simple, “It has low work hours and getting paid to talk rubbish.”

Lediga says his funniest joke is a “knock-knock” one.

While most people have a bad day, some more than others, Lediga says he never has bad days.

“What makes me laugh are the funny things in life and the silly things that people say,” he points out.

So what can people expect from Lediga at the Kings and Queens of Comedy Africa?

“For me, to speak slowly so everybody can understand,” he says. – @TumeloBoksurg
