Local comedian launches one man show

Funny man Tol Ass Mo stands out from the crowd with his extreme fashion sense and hairstyle trends.

His trademark phrase “That’s So Great” is also the name of his new upcoming one-man show, which will be launched at Emperors Palace, on November 20 and 21.

Eastrand born Tol Ass Mo, real name Mongezi Ngcobondwane, is a comedian, style icon, and reality TV star alongside his wife Mome Nale- Ngcobondwane.

Their reality TV show, Molove, is currently in its second season due to popular demand.

Mo will return to the East Rand, where he grew up, to launch his one-man show as part of Emperors Palace 15 year celebration.

The Advertiser caught up with the funny man himself to find out what audiences can expect from his upcoming show.

Growing up in the East Rand, Mongezi’s fondest memory is going to school in Kempton Park, as well as a childhood friendship with his best friend Akwasi.

Many people don’t know that Tol Ass Mo actually stands for Totally Outrageous Laughter Avantgarde Street Style Mongezi, a name that was given to him by a friend.

“My homeboy Stanley Parkies inspired this name, in 2011, when he also introduced me to stand-up comedy,” says Mongezi.

While Mongezi gets paid to make people laugh, it’s not difficult to get a laugh out of him.

“Anything makes me laugh, from crazy conversations, to people’s behaviours, mannerisms and their characteristics,” he says.

Mongezi adds that there’s a misconception that comedians can never be serious, while he is hardly ever serious, he is able to strike a balance.

He promises that people will be thoroughly entertained during the launch of his upcoming one-man show.

“People can expect totally outrageous laughter, nothing but the truth, and a storytelling show, like never seen before,” says Mongezi.

“I’ve never been this nervous about a show before, and I’m very excited to be launching it in my home town,” he adds.

Mongezi says next year he will take the show on tour around the country.

“Humble yourself and let your work speak for itself,” he advises.
