So, what sets the G63 Grand Edition apart from the standard derivative? Well, for starters, the limited edition’s bodywork is finished in Manufaktur night black magno. The dark colour scheme is contrasted by an array of gold-coloured items. The ‘Kalaharigold mago’ hue has been applied to the Mercedes star, Affalterbach emblem emblazoned on the bonnet, ‘AMG’ logo, front and rear bumper inlays, the spare-wheel cover’s surround, 22-inch alloy wheels, and side decals. The interior also features contrasting black-and-gold trim elements, such as gold-coloured stitching for the black Nappa leather pews.

As a reminder, the pinnacle G-Wagon employs the Affalterbach automaker’s familiar 4l, twin-turbocharged V8. The petrol unit produces 430kW and 850N.m of torque, sent to all four corners via the firm’s nine-speed AMG Speedshift TCT automatic transmission. According to the company, these figures allow the G63 to dispatch the obligatory 0-100km/h sprint in 4.5 seconds, before topping out at an electronically governed 220km/h. However, the latter can be lifted by 20km/h to 240km/h when specifying the correct package.
