Enjoy the fiery twist of Habanero Blood Orange Margarita

The Habanero Blood Orange Margarita offers a dynamic flavour profile that balances sweetness, tanginess, and spiciness.

While the classic margarita is undeniably delicious, there’s always room for experimentation. Enter the Habanero Blood Orange Margarita – a vibrant and spicy twist on the traditional recipe that introduces a tantalising blend of heat and citrus.

The addition of blood orange juice introduces a rich, tangy sweetness, while habanero peppers add a fiery kick. This fusion creates a complex and unforgettable drink that caters to adventurous palates.

Ingredients

  • 50ml Tequila (a good-quality blanco or reposado tequila works best)
  • 25ml Freshly squeezed blood orange juice
  • 15ml Lime juice
  • 20ml Triple Sec
  • 10ml Habanero Simple Syrup (recipe below)
  • Ice
  • Salt (for rimming the glass)
  • Blood orange slice (for garnish)

Habanero Simple Syrup

  • 100g Granulated Sugar
  • 100ml Water
  • 1 Habanero pepper (sliced, seeds removed for less heat)

Combine the sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Add the sliced habanero pepper and simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let it steep for an additional 10-15 minutes. Strain the syrup into a clean container and let it cool. Adjust the steeping time based on your heat preference. This syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Method

  1. Rim your glass with lime juice and dip it into salt.
  2.  In a cocktail shaker, combine tequila, blood orange juice, lime juice, triple sec, and habanero simple syrup. Fill the shaker with ice.
  3. Shake the mixture vigorously for about 20 seconds.
  4. Strain the mixture into your prepared glass over fresh ice.
  5. Garnish with a slice of blood orange.
