Decadent Amaretto espresso martini

This cocktail is a delightful after-dinner drink with a caffeine kick and dessert-like sweetness that pairs well with biscotti.

The Espresso Martini is a beloved classic. The bold espresso provides a strong coffee foundation, while the vodka adds a clean, smooth finish. The amaretto introduces a sweet, nutty note that complements the bitterness of the coffee, and the coffee liqueur enhances the overall depth of flavour, adding a subtle sweetness and richness.

Ingredients

  • 1 shot espresso, freshly brewed and cooled
  • 1 shot vodka
  • 1 shot amaretto
  • 1/2 shot coffee liqueur (such as Kahlúa)
  • Ice cubes
  • Coffee beans or a dusting of cocoa powder for garnish

Preparation Steps

  1. Start by brewing a shot of espresso. Allow it to cool to room temperature. This is crucial to ensure the cocktail stays chilled and doesn’t become diluted with warm espresso.
  2. Place a martini glass in the freezer to chill.
  3. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes. Add the cooled espresso, vodka, amaretto, and coffee liqueur.
  4. Shake the mixture vigorously for about 15-20 seconds.
  5. Remove the martini glass from the freezer. Strain the mixture from the shaker into the chilled glass, ensuring that the frothy top pours out last to form a creamy layer on the surface of the cocktail.
  6. Garnish with a few coffee beans or a light dusting of cocoa powder for an elegant touch. Serve immediately.
