Bagels made easy in an air fryer

These soft, delicious air fryer bagels are made using only two ingredients or six - depending on how you like your bagels.

Bagels are a beloved breakfast staple. Originating in Poland in the 17th century, bagels have a rich and storied history. Initially known as “bajgiel,” these ring-shaped bread rolls were popularised by Jewish communities in Eastern Europe.

Today, bagels are enjoyed worldwide and come in a variety of flavours and toppings, but their enduring appeal as a versatile and delicious bread product remains unchanged.

Making bagels in the air fryer offers several advantages over traditional methods. First, it’s faster – no need to wait for the dough to rise multiple times. Second, air frying produces a crispy exterior while maintaining a soft and chewy interior reminiscent of your favourite bakery-fresh bagels.

Recipe compliments of Instant Pot.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup self-raising flour (or plain flour + baking powder)
  • 3/4 cup double cream yoghurt (have more on hand)
  • Salt
  • Milk to brush it
  • Everything (bagel spice) or sesame seeds

Method

  1. In a bowl mix flour, baking powder(if needed), cream, salt and knead.
  2. On a flat surface continue kneading the dough and cut into portions. Then shape the dough making a circle in the centre.
  3. Brush over the bagels with milk and sprinkle over sesame seeds or any topping of your choice.
  4. Bake in the air fryer for 15 minutes at 180C or until golden.
