When was the last time you saw a 1939 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 S?

This remarkable vehicle claimed the coveted Best of Show title at the debut Concorso d’Eleganza Varignana 1705 event held at the magnificent Palazzo di Varignana in Bologna, Italy.

It was the first-ever automotive competition of its kind in the heart of Italy’s illustrious Motor Valley. Notably, it marked the 300th accolade for esteemed collector Corrado Lopresto.

A distinguished panel of automotive connoisseurs, including Stefano Pasini, the president of the jury and renowned author of more than 30 automotive books, Lorenzo Ramaciotti, former head of Pininfarina design and president of the Villa d’Este Elegance Competition, along with Dr Gianni Mercatali and Dr Alessandra Giorgetti, esteemed figures in global automotive juries, meticulously deliberated in the opulent setting of the Royal Train of Palazzo di Varignana to determine the winners in various categories.

The judges were captivated by the 1939 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 S Berlinetta Touring, recognising its unparalleled design, illustrious history, and meticulous restoration that allows admirers to marvel at the car’s pristine condition. It retains its original registration document and license plate, bearing the names of former illustrious owners like Prince Caetani. Among the 23 carefully selected vehicles on display, this Alfa Romeo stood out as the victor.

Corrado Lopresto expressed his deep emotions, stating, “Winning Best in Show is the dream of every car enthusiast. I am thrilled to have taken part in the inaugural event, and I hope it will establish itself as a hallmark in the international elegance competition season.”

The Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 S Berlinetta Touring also secured first place in the Pre-war Elegance category, sharing the limelight with other outstanding winners. One of them is the 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 SS, driven by Luca Patron, which triumphed in the Heroic Races category. This vehicle is considered one of the last four Alfa Romeos created by English coachbuilder, James Young.
