Local music group tells SA stories in unique way

While their main art medium of conveying messages is music, they also transmit them through dance, acting, fine arts and fashion.

A local music group named Every Action Reacts To History (E.A.R.T.H.) provides a unique performance on stage.

Formed in 2017 by two art enthusiasts, Kabelo Sibanyoni and Lesego Montsho, E.A.R.T.H. has become more than just a group of musicians. They now refer to themselves as an artistic movement that is deeply rooted in collaborations.

While their main art medium of conveying messages is music, they also transmit them through dance, acting, fine arts and fashion.

“We use various arts mediums to tell stories where music is our main medium and others are the extras,” Mantsho said.

She said they tell authentic South African stories in a unique way.

“Talents and creativity make our group different from a lot of other bands.”

She said when performing, they provided an entire unique production.

“We wear attires that are designed and manufactured by us and collaborate with other creatives to bring out a beautiful work.”

Montsho said they brought in other creators to grow their vision and help their group reach a wider audience.

Since its establishment, the group has acquired much needed experience and skills to showcase a breath-taking performance.

“We have performed in major events such as the Smoking Dragon festival in Drakensberg.”

The 10-member group is also about playing its role in relation to creation employment.

Sibanyoni said this was only possible when clients booked the group and more people attended their shows.

The group, performing music of various genres such as Afro jazz and Afro pop, has great plans for the future.

He said they wanted to have their own space where they could create their work and teach others about their craft.

“We need our own space to have the freedom of telling our own stories.”

He said they were planning to have various studios including a dance studio, music studio as well as a theatre where “we can be able to express ourselves better”.

He said they believed their own space would make it easy for them to train the youth that would take over from them in the future.

There are no recordings of their music as of yet and can only be heard at their live performances.
