Play shines spotlight on domestic violence

Actor Sandra-Simoné Visser shares her personal experience of being a victim of abuse.

Woman abuse and domestic violence were highlighted during a one-woman play called Anoniem last Tuesday.

The show was performed at Better Boys Village in Montana.

Abused victim Sandra-Simoné Visser shared her personal experience of violence with an audience of 150 people.

The show was aimed at encouraging women to stand up and fight against abuse.

Speaking on behalf of Visser, Anoniem show director Jacques Botes said the show persuaded abused women to break the silence and report domestic violence to the police.

“A number of women who are victims of abuse do not get assistance because they do not speak out,” said Botes.

He said failing to report domestic violence to the police often led to more abuse.

The show also encouraged residents to speak out about abuse and provide the necessary assistance to victims in need.

Award-winning artist Joe Foster also treated the audience with his music.
