Absa media cook-off is red hot

Media and rugby stars compete in a cook-off.

Absa South Africa recently hosted a very special cook-off at its new-look branch in Forest Hill City mall.

Excited members of the South African print and radio media were invited to compete in a battle of attempted culinary expertise. Most of the competitors had little to no cooking experience and the competition was fierce.

Hosted by celebrity chef Francois Ferreira, owner of the prestigious Culinary Arts and Hospitality academy, and joined by Bulls rugby players William Small-Smith and Francois Hougaard, the evening was a great success, with each team required to make a traditional bobotie.

The competition was stiff, with each team eager to walk away as the victor. Working hard to win, Hougaard still managed to ‘liberate’ a few handfuls of raisins as a quick snack before the rest was added to the recipe.

Some teams, in a bid to win, decided to take an alternative approach to the recipe, taking a few liberties with the recipe, including making an ‘upside down bobotie’.

Hougaard and Small-Smith’s blue team eventually walked away as the victors, each winning a Snappy Chef induction cooker.
