COMPETITION: What’s new at the movies?

An adult Christopher Robin, who is now focused on his new life, work, and family, suddenly meets his old friend Winnie-the-Pooh, returning to his unforgotten childhood to help Pooh return to the Hundred Acre Wood.

Winnie-the-Pooh and some of the world’s most beloved characters can now be seen in the brand new live-action adventure, Disney’s Christopher Robin opening at Nu Metro cinemas in Pretoria this week while the new Afrikaans romantic-comedy Stroomop opens on Wednesday, 8 August (look out for the review in next week’s edition).

An adult Christopher Robin (Ewan McGregor), who is now focused on his new life, work, and family, suddenly meets his old friend Winnie-the-Pooh, returning to his unforgotten childhood to help Pooh return to the Hundred Acre Wood. With Christopher’s help, Pooh embarks on a journey to find his friends — Tigger, Eeyore, Owl, Piglet, Rabbit, Kanga and Roo. Once reunited, the lovable bear and the gang travel to the big city to help Christopher rediscover the joy of life. Christopher Robin is a signature Disney adventure for the whole family to enjoy.

When a group of teens mysteriously develops powerful new abilities, they are declared a threat by the government and detained. 16-year-old Ruby, one of the most powerful young people anyone has encountered, escapes her camp and joins a group of runaway teens seeking safe haven. Soon, this new family of runaways realise that the adults in power have betrayed them and running is no longer an option, they wage a resistance, using their power to take control of their future.

In riot-torn, near-future Los Angeles, Hotel Artemis is an original, high-octane action-thriller starring Jodie Foster as The Nurse, who runs a secret, members-only hospital for criminals. The Nurse is a no-nonsense, high-tech healer who already has her hands full with a French assassin, an arms dealer and an injured cop. Suspense checks in when she finds out that one of the patients is there to kill her. Foster is joined by an all-star cast that includes Sterling K. Brown, Sofia Boutella, Jeff Goldblum, Bryan Tyree Henry, Jenny Slate, Zachary Quinto, Charlie Day, and Dave Bautista.
