Tango legend Siri to play in Pretoria

The Roberto Siri Trio is best known for its “to die for” Tango beats.

The Brooklyn Theatre in collaboration with the Embassy of Argentina will host the celebrated Roberto Siri Trio this Saturday.

The trio is best known for its “to die for” Tango beats.

Tango is a partner dance which originates in the 1880s along River Plate (Río de Plata), the natural border between Argentina and Uruguay.

Theatre director Jean-Piere Verster said the theatre had brought Escalandrum, a world famous sextet featuring Pipi Piazzolla, and the remarkable Mederos Trio previously so “we now are bringing the Roberto Siri Trio to Pretoria”.

Hailed a living legend, Roberto Siri was born in the Buenos Aires, Argentina.

He started taking piano lessons at the age of five, and by nine, at his father’s request, he also started taking bandoneon (concertina) classes.

“At the age of 15, Roberto Siri became a piano, harmony, and music theory teacher,” according to The Orbit, jazz social club.

Then in 1954 his professional career would start.

Currently, Siri is performing with his brand new orchestra which comprises him on piano, Ines Flores on bandoneon, Ariel Galiano on double bass and guitar, Marcos Press on violin and singer Angel Greco.

“For Brooklyn Theatre, Roberto Siri Trio has designed a special programme for tango music lovers to enjoy,” said Verster.
