East woman newest cast member of soapie Isidingo

Rosa Anthony from The Willows will be joining SABC 3 soapie Isidingo on Wednesday 16 May.

Pretoria east residents will be glad to know that one of their own has joined popular soapie Isidingo‘s cast.

Rosa Anthony from The Willows will be joining the SABC 3 soapie on Wednesday 16 May.

She has been in the acting industry since 2011.

She has previously starred in the hit BBC mini-series The Wrong Mans. On South African television she has been on e-TV’s Rhythm City, SABC 1’s Task Force and the third runner-up in SABC1’s acting competition Class Act.

Asked how she was adjusting as a new cast member, she said: “This whole experience so far has been very exciting and nerve-wracking, considering that Isidingo has for so many years been one of the most popular soapies on SA television. Nonetheless, being back in the acting game has made me overwhelmingly happy.”

Anthony admits that in her first week at the studios she was star-struck when she bumped into actors like Tema Sebopedi (Lerato Matabane), Motlatsi Mafatshe (Sechaba Matabane) and Khabonina Qubeka (Nina).

“But it soon set in that they are my co-stars, and the cast has welcomed me on board. The Isidingo cast and crew are really amazing people. The behind-the-scenes environment is special. The crew have become such a support base for me as the new kid on the block. I appreciate them so much,” she said.

Her character Seline is the other half and true power of the Van Staden team.

In the soapie, she has a diploma in hotel management and hospitality and she meets her husband Clive while he is serving his apprenticeship as assistant manager of a hotel in Port Elizabeth.

After a whirlwind romance, they get married and go off to run a hotel on the coast near East London.

They later arrive in Horizon Deep, but they are not what they seem to be.

When asked if she thinks she shares similar characteristics with her character, she said: “Seline and I are in fact very different. Seline, unlike me, is very uninhibited. She has a kind of freedom that I think many people wish they could have.

“I love how she goes for what she wants and trusts her instincts. She has this disarming playfulness…but which can be dangerous.

“I, on the other hand, am a straight-up good girl. Seline is able to hide things – she is quite mysterious. I am not at all.”

Anthony was born in Pietermaritzburg and is the youngest child. Only one of her siblings has pursued a career in the arts.

She completed a four-year degree in theatre and performance, majoring in acting for stage and film at the University of Cape Town.

She moved to Pretoria in 2015 and worked at Willowridge High School as a dramatic arts teacher before leaving to pursue acting full time.

“When I landed the role on Isidingo, I honestly felt it was my time to return to acting. I think we all have a journey in life with different stops along the way. One of my ‘stops’ was teaching dramatic arts, inspiring young actors and being inspired by their passion for the craft.

“I cannot say that I will never teach again – I loved working with teenagers, but it definitely was an intended stop along my acting journey.”

You can watch Seline on Isidingo from Monday to Friday at 19:00.
