Pretoria is experiencing scorching temperatures during one of summer’s hottest heatwaves, with maximum temperatures peaking at a whopping 41°C.

But we’ve got some fun solutions for you to keep cool in this hot weather, because really:
1. Don’t have air conditioning? Are all the portable air cons sold out at your local home appliance store? No problem! Watch this tutorial on how to make your own air conditioner:
2. Freeze a whole lot of fruit cubes. It’s simple. Squish some blackberries, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries into the squares of an ice cube tray. Then fill up with water and pop into the freezer.
3. Put beauty products like moisturiser and facial toner into the fridge. This will serve as a quick jolt of refreshment.
4. Draw the curtains in your house during the day so that they keep out pesky rays. This will ensure that you return too a (hopefully) cool and tranquil home.
5. Wrap a piece of wet paper towel around your drink and pop in into the freezer. After 15 minutes you’ll have an ice cold drink to enjoy.

7. This top tip doesn’t need much preparation. We know January is tough, so if your budget is tight, just get a damp towel, wrap yourself in it and take a nap.
8. Fill a spray bottle with water and keep it in the fridge. Whenever the heat gets too much, just spray a bit of chilled water over your face. Who needs a pool anyway?
9. Can’t sleep at night? Put your sheets in the freezer about 30 minutes before going to bed. You’ll thank me later.
