Thousands descend on Capital Craft Beer Festival

The Voortrekker Monument played host to this year's edition of the annual Capital Craft Beer Festival.

Thousands of people descended on the Voortrekker monument on Saturday 13 June for Pretoria’s favourite annual beer festival.

Beer and music lovers said the third instalment of the Capital Craft Beer Festival was a complete success. Some of South Africa’s premier micro-breweries showcased their craft alongside some of the world’s premier craft breweries.

A total of 28 different brewers showcased more than 100 beers. From Kristall Weiss and Belgian Quadruppels, to Pilsner, dark ales and cherry beer, known as a kriek. There was something for every palate. From experienced brewers to those just looking for a good time, Capital Craft offered the best of both worlds.

No good beer festival is complete without some good food, and Capital Craft delivered in spades. From Käsekrainer German sausages and Namib biltong to Spanish paella and vegetarian falafels. Good food was found at every corner of the picturesque venue.

The festival has become so popular that all of the tickets available online were sold out well in advance, with only a handful available at the gate to the lucky few who turned up early enough.

The day was further made special with incredible music by some of South Africa’s best bands.

Folk heroes Georgetown‘s foot-stomping blend of acoustic guitar, mandolin, ukulele and piano provided the perfect sound to complement the festive atmosphere. Other bands included BCUC, Sea of Green, Mr Cat & The Jackal, The Fake Leather Blues Band and blues rock superstars The Black Cat Bones.

With growing interest in well-made and unique craft beer continuing, all eyes are on next year’s Capital Craft Beer Festival.
