Local man selected for M-Net’s film academy

A talented Centurion man, Kabelo Ramputa, was selected to attend the 12-month M-Net Magic in Motion Academy.

Out of 200 applicants, Kabelo Ramputa was one of 12 interns selected to join the M-Net Magic in Motion Academy.

The 12-month long internship initiative is M-Net’s corporate social investment project, aimed at developing local talent in the film and television industry.

Ramputa (26), a Centurion resident originally from Soshanguve, said he applied for the academy when M-Net visited his college, Boston Media House, to invite students to the M-Net Magic in Motion Expo last year.

“It was a long process, but definitely worthwhile. I went to two interviews and assessments, which were a bit tricky because I am used to studying and writing a test, not being interviewed,” he said.

Ramputa fell in love with the camera when his uncle showed him the true art of photography and how to capture the best moments.

He said his dream is to start a film school in his home town Soshanguve.

“I believe it will change the community and give young people something to be passionate about. There is so much young talent in my area,” he said.

The passionate young man will be working on M-Net’s major shows such as MasterChef SA, Miss South Africa, Carte Blanche, Binnelanders, Isibaya, Big Brother and various others.

Ramputa will be among those who will be coached, mentored and assessed throughout the internship programme.

Academy director, Bobby Heaney said the interns will be attending masterclasses during the year, gaining experience from top professionals in the industry.

Ramputa said he hoped to be exposed to as many facets of television and production as possible.

He currently owns a photography company, where he takes wedding and event photos.

“I hope to make enough money to start a film company one day. One must have faith and believe in everything you do, and not be limited by any boundaries.”
