Color Run changes venue

The fun event known as the happiest five kilometres on the planet, has joined forces for the Unite4Mandela sport and culture initiative and will not be held at the Voortrekker Monument any more.

The most colourful event ever to be held in Pretoria, the Color Run, will now kick off at the Union Buildings on 22 November after organisers joined forces with the Unite4Mandela sport and culture initiative.

Originally planned to be held at the Voortrekker Monument, the fun event, during which runners are blasted with clouds of brightly coloured powder in several different colour zones before ending the run with a colour throwing and music festival, will now be part of celebrations at the Union Buildings on 22 November.

“We are thrilled that the Color Run series has been invited to join Unite4Mandela in honour of our global icon, the late Nelson Mandela,” said Leon Swanepoel, licence holder of the Color Run Africa series.

“Our participants will be able to share in the celebrations on the day as well as enjoy a free tribute concert after the Color Run,” he said, adding that the event still started at 09:00 despite the change of venue.

Tickets for the run are available online and Color Runners can pre-register for the 2014 event series.

Swanepoel warned that entries were filling up fast and Runners were encouraged to enter now at www.thecolorrun.co.za before the race sold out.

He said groups of four buddies or more and corporate groups of fifteen entries or more received a special discount and children under 10 ran free, provided they were accompanied by an adult.

One lucky reader can win four tickets to take part in the Color Run as well as branded merchandise, including a T-shirt, socks and sunglasses for all four Color Runners. To enter, SMS the word COLOR and your name to 42282. SMSs cost R1,50 and free SMSs do not apply. The competition closes on 17 November at midnight. The winner will be notified by telephone.
