Pretoria hosts many fun activities for children of all ages to enjoy while they are taking a break from their school books.

Rapunzel at the Irene Village Theatre

The traditional story of a girl with beautiful long blond hair has been brought to life in the most refreshing way. Rapunzel, showing at the Irene Village Theatre, has its own touch to the fairy tale. Old and new characters will be introduced, giving the story an intriguing twist. Costs are between R55 and R75. Snow White and the seven Dwarfs

Snow White ends up in the seven dwarfs’ house – but three of them went to the sea. This production is presented by Oakfield College’s students at the Pierneef Theatre from 2 until 4 April at 10:00. Beauty and the Beast

A musical production from Dubai brings the story of Beauty and the Best alive. An imaginative fairy tale, based on the classical traditional story written in 1740, but with new twist in the tale. This show is suitable for the whole family. It will be shown at the Barnyard Theatre Parkview in Woodhill on 5 April at 14:00. The costs are R90 per person. Book a workshop at Funky Cakes

If you see a bit of patisserie chef potential in your little one, book them for a baking workshop at Funky Cakes in Montana. Angelique and her team of professionals will help your child master basic decorating skills. Other workshops focus on cake pops for children and fancy cupcakes. Ice Skating at The Grove.

The ice rink at the Grove Mall is the ideal place for children and teenagers to come together while their mothers are doing shopping. Entrance fee is R55 and to hire skates costs R20. Daytime sessions are from 10:00 to 17:00 and evening sessions from 19:30 to 22:30. The rink is closed on Monday evenings.

Acrobranch Outdoor Sport Activity for Kids

Acrobranch is a fun hangout for children who wants to soak up the last summer-sun. Here children can slide on zip line and their way through nets and barrels in the forest of eucalyptus trees. Bester Birds and Animals Zoo Park

Give your child the opportunity to come in close contact with wild animals while being in a safe environment. Bester Birds and Animals Zoo Park gives children the opportunity to be close to nature and to feel and experience it with all their senses. Children can also learn more about a variety of unusual and wonderful animals. Pack a picnic basket and have your children be entertained for the whole day. Phone 012-807-2574.

Parent and Child Create Workshop Series

The Creative Workshop is a parent and child centre activity focusing on the importance of play, as play provides children with the opportunity to actively explore, manipulate and interact with the environment. Walk 4 Acceptance

Choose Life Church in Moreleta Park, is hosting a fun-walk on 12 April as a moneyraising event for Down Syndrome sufferers. Bring the whole family along. Hart van Jakaranda

The Jacaranda en Louis Botha children’s home in Pretoria will host the Hart van Jakaranda music festival where the best Afrikaans musicians will perform. It takes place at the Heart Felt Area on 11 April at 19:00. Come and listen to Juanita du Plessis, Theuns Jordaan, Kurt Darren, Pieter Koen, ADAM, Ricus Nel and Hennie Jacobs (Diederick from the television series 7de Laan) for your favourite Afrikaans-hits.
